Scientific Society
The Student Society of Cardiac Surgery at the Lower Silesian Heart Diseases Centre MEDINET was founded in October 2003 and has enjoyed significantpopularity from the very beginning. As one of the primary intentions of the founders was to develop the interest of students in cardiac surgery, cardiology and anaesthesiology, the classes and duty hours are held in the operating suite, post-operative care department and cardiac surgery department.
We teach the students how to conduct cardiac examination and show the diagnostics methods (ECG, ultrasound cardiography, coronarography, etc.). Apart from the strictly practical part, our students also write scientific papers, which are later presented at student and medical conferences, both in Poland and abroad. The students from the Society decided also to carry out an action of raising patients' awareness. They conduct classes in the Rehabilitation Department about "the common diseases of the patients after cardiac surgery" (e.g. ischaemic disease, atherosclerosis, arterial hypertension).
Bearing in mind that patients' medical knowledge is not usually very broad, our students try to conduct classes in an interesting and comprehensible manner. They show what causes the disease, how to prevent it, and what does the treatment consist in. MEDINET staff, both doctors and nurses, also participates actively in popularising medical issues.
