The Department of Early Cardiac Rehabilitation is the first one in Poland to continue the treatment process as early as during the first twenty four hours after the surgery and after the transfer from the cardiovascular surgery ward. Stay at the early cardiac rehabilitation department is recommended to every patient as it accelerates recovery. Rehabilitation begun in the early post-operative stage prevents serious complications, especially the ones related to the respiratory system, and allows patients to regain the full use of the body.
The stay inthe department lasts 21 days. Early cardiac rehabilitation is conducted:
- up to 30 days after a cardiac incident - myocardial infarction,
- up to 40 days after a cardiovascular surgery.
The Cardiac Rehabilitation Department provides the following health care services:
- rehabilitation exercise,
- morning exercise,
- breathing exercise,
- group exercise,
- individual exercise,
- nebulization (spraying),
- relaxation,
- spinning,
- gym training
- bioptron lamp,
- massage,
- inhalations,
- educational talks on healthy lifestyle.
Rehabilitation begins at 7.35 a.m. and finishes at 5 p.m. (at the weekends and holidays it finishes at 3 a.m.). The schedule of the exercise classes leaves plenty of time for regeneration. The type of rehabilitation is adjusted individually, strictly according to the condition of the patient and instructions of his or her primary physician. Rehabilitation consists of systematic training to improve the efficiency of coronary blood flow and general physical condition. Before the training starts, a patient undergoes first an exercise test on a treadmill or a stationary bicycle, whose results allow to prepare an individual training programme.
During their stay, patients are under constant care of the cardiologists and cardiac surgeons, as well as nurses and physiotherapists. The Department has 33 beds in single and double rooms with bathrooms and TV.
OurEarly Cardiac Rehabilitation Department is also a training department for students of the Academy of Physical Education (Akademia Wychowania Fizycznego) and of the College of Physiotherapy (Wyższa Szkoła Fizjoterapii) in Wrocław.
"Operation can safe life and prolong life,
rehabilitation restoreshealth and improves the quality of that life."

The operating suite is fitted with the advanced medical equipment and instruments, which allows us to perform cardiac surgery in compliance with the highest medical standards. We specialize in:
- surgery of congenital heart and great vessels defects in newborns (the smallest operated neonate weighed only 450 g),
- cardiac surgery in children,
- cardiac surgery in adults,
- surgery of acquired diseases:
- valvuloplasty
- artificial heart valve implant
- surgery of aortic aneurysms
- surgery of post-infarction aneurysms
- surgery of coronary vessels
- with cardiopulmonary bypass
- beating-heart surgery
- complex surgeries, e.g. bypasses and valves
- interdisciplinary surgeries, e.g. bypasses with restoring the patency of the carotid arteries and heart tumour surgery, etc.
Currently, minimal invasive surgeries are performed in the operating suite; introduction of hybrid surgeries is planned for the nearest future.
We perform 930 surgeries yearly, including 150 surgeries on children.
A team of perfusionists cooperates closely with our cardiac surgeons. During the open heart surgery, perfusionists monitor the extracorporeal circulation both in adults and children. It is possible due to the heart-lung machine.
